Tracey Smith Carthage ISD Education Foundation Director

The Carthage ISD Education Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Tracey Smith as its new director. Smith, a lifelong Carthage resident and current librarian and gifted and talented teacher at Libby Elementary, will assume the role in June 2025 following the retirement of current Director Cynthia Roberson (formerly Harkrider).

Smith brings more than two decades of experience in public education, including service in both Carthage ISD and Elysian Fields ISD. Her background includes experience in state and federal programs, grant writing, budget planning, and community outreachā€”skills that will be invaluable as she takes the helm of the Foundation.

"Tracey is deeply rooted in the Carthage community and passionate about helping students and teachers thrive," said Kevin Smith, Carthage ISD Education Foundation Executive Board President. "Her heart for education and local connections make her the ideal person to lead the Foundation into the future. We are excited about whatā€™s ahead under her leadership."

Carthage ISD Superintendent Jarrod Bitter also expressed confidence in Smithā€™s appointment. "Tracey has a deep understanding of the needs of teachers and students," Bitter said. "She will bring energy, vision, and a servantā€™s heart to this role. Iā€™m confident she will continue to grow the impact of the Foundation for years to come."

As director, Smith will oversee all operations of the Education Foundation, including donor relations, fundraising, and administration of teacher grants aimed at promoting innovation in Carthage ISD classrooms. A 1988 graduate of Carthage High School, Smith is a proud Bulldog who looks forward to giving back to the district that shaped her as a student and professional.

"Iā€™ve seen firsthand the positive impact the Foundation has made in our schools," Mrs. Smith said. "Itā€™s an honor to serve in this role, and I look forward to building on the strong foundation already in place."

Smith will officially step into her new role this summer. Roberson, who has served in this role since 2013, will retire in May after 39 total years of dedicated service to Carthage ISD and the community. Bitter thanked Roberson for her dedication, saying ā€œWe are very excited for Cynthia and could never thank her enough for all that she has done on behalf of our students and teachers through her work with the Education Foundation.ā€
